“Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came to pass, that the LORD spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying…,” Joshua 1:1

We’ve all heard a coach say something like the following: “Next man up!” He is acknowledging that injuries happen in a game. It then becomes the responsibility of the next guy in line to step up for a winning role.

In our text Moses, the great leader of God’s people has died. All men die. It’s not a matter of if, but of when. Have you ever considered that you might be the next man up someday? Joshua was that “next” man to follow Moses. Today, we have so few good men in leadership. Of that few, many are passing on. Who is the next man up when they’re gone? It may not be you, sir, but you ought to live like it is. Because you never know!
